With the ski trails closed, we enter that long stretch before we can get to biathlon-ing again. In the meantime, the national team member, Chloe Levins, will once again be hosting a shooting clinic this summer at Snow Mountain Ranch range! The clinic will run from June 28 (Wednesday) through July 2 (Sunday), and, like last year, Chloe will be offering a mix of group clinics (including youth-specific ones) and 1:1 sessions.  All of the clinics and 1:1s will be .22 rifle only (you’ll need to provide your own rifle and ammo) and the usual Red Book and USBA membership requirements will apply. Visit coloradobiathlon.org to subscribe to the CBC member’s e-mail list to receive updates when they’re announced.

Chloe Levins is a member of the national team with an impressive 92% prone shooting and an 82% standing for the season – shooting numbers that are right up there with some of the best in the World Cup!

If you attended or heard about Chloe’s clinics last year you know she puts on a great program.  This year’s clinics will consist of adult classes for beginners and intermediate/advanced biathletes as well as a kids clinic and 1:1 sessions. Participants will need to be Red Book certified and provide their own rifle and ammo to participate in the clinics and youth participants must have a parent or responsible adult present.

There will be a small Red Book class on June 24 for those who need certification.  This is primarily geared toward those who have been racing with pellet rifles and are ready to make the move to .22. There will be a small number of club rifles available but the expectation is that participants will have their own rifle. Club rifles are not available for youths under the age of 13, and youth attendees must have a responsible adult attend the class with them.  If you try to register and the club rifle selection is not available, then we have already reached capacity for club rifle users.

Registration for both events will open at 5:00 PM Mountain time Wednesday, May 24th.

Here are the class descriptions:

Kids Clinic- this is for biathletes ages 15 and younger who have their Red Book and their own .22.  This clinic will cover shooting theory, training periodization, and technique with an emphasis on fun and will include a few games to keep everyone engaged. Participants must provide their own rifle and biathlon-approved ammo, and per CBC policy youth attendees must have a parent or responsible adult present.

Adult Beginner Clinic– If you’ve just gotten your Red Book and rifle but haven’t gotten around to racing yet, or you’ve just gotten in a season or two with a few races, this is probably the clinic for you. Chloe will still cover aspects of shooting theory, training periodization, and technique, but with more of an emphasis on the basics of position, trigger pull, and timing, as well as training exercises that can be done off the range. Participants must be Red Book certified and provide their own rifle and biathlon-approved ammo.

Adult Advanced/Intermediate Clinic– If you’ve been around the block (or penalty loop) for a few years and race pretty regularly, this is where you want to be to take your biathlon shooting to the next level! This class will take a deeper look at theory, periodization, and technique while fine-tuning your skills and range procedure to help you find extra speed and knock down a few more targets.  Participants must be Red Book certified and provide their own rifle and biathlon-approved ammo.

1:1 Sessions– If you learn best in a one-on-one setting, or have something specific you want to work on, maybe dialing in your rifle setup and position, or perhaps you feel pretty confident knocking down prone targets but can’t seem to hit those pesky standing ones (or vice versa), then this is the class you want to sign up for.  Chloe will work with you at your level and help you focus in on the areas you want to improve.  These sessions are open to Red Book certified adults and youth with their own .22 rifles or pellet competitors with their own pellet rifles. Per CBC policy, youth attendees must have a parent or responsible adult present.
