There is no shortage of snow in Colorado this January. But the kaleidoscope of conditions continues to add variety within the snowpack. Warmth early in the week brought rain and graupel high up into the Colorado valley, and with colder temperatures following, there is a slight crust layer of instability buried beneath new snowfall and depositions from the high winds that added to the snowpack later in the week. Remember that traversing areas below slopes can be as dangerous as being on them. Expect to find plenty of fresh snow to enjoy over the weekend!
Happy trails!
