Nordic ski racing has returned to Grand County and now is your chance to participate no matter your age, gender, or ability. There are even kid and family options. Grand County Nordic Ski Racing is putting on six Nordic races, both skate and classic, with long and short course options. Pick your race or participate in the series, progressively increasing your distance to the series final at the Snow Mountain Stampede.

2023 Race Descriptions

Stagecoach Classic

Devil’s Thumb Ranch and the Winter Park/Fraser Chamber are happy to present the sixth annual 30km, 15km, and 3k kids classic-only cross country ski race and tour. The event will start and finish at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa. Post race celebration will be located at Axil’s Pavilion with soup and beer.

Registration closes at 12:00 pm on January 20th, 2023.

After 12:00pm on January 14th, 2023 prices will increase (HS Student has a flat rate):

30k Classic Ski Race: $65 to $85, High School Student $45
15k Classic Race: $45 to $65, High School Student $25
15k Classic Ski Tour: $45 to $65, High School Student $25
3k Kids Classic Ski: $0.00

Locations and Transportation:
All events will start and finish at Devil’s Thumb Ranch. Please park all cars in the parking lots located north and west of the main lodge (#1 on our DTR property map). Overflow parking is located at the highlonesome lodge (#15 on our DTR property map).

Friday, January 20th
12:00pm – 5:00pm: Pre-registration and packet pick-up at Chamber of Commerce – 78841 US-40, Winter Park, CO 80482

5:30pm – 8:00pm: Pre-registration and packet pick-up at Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Zach’s Mercantile (#6 on our DTR property map).

Saturday, January 21st

7:00am – 8:30am: 30km packet pick-up at Devil’s Thumb Ranch (Day Lodge located #14 on property map)

7:00am – 9:30am: 15km race and tour packet pick-up at Devil’s Thumb Ranch (Day Lodge located #14 on property map)
9:00am: 30k race mass start

9:15am: 3k kids race start.

10:00am: 15k race mass start
10:05am: 15k ski tour start immediately following the 15k mass start

11:00am – 3:30pm: After Party with soup and beer at Axel’s Pavilion (#19 on our DTR property map)

12:00pm : Award ceremony (#19 on our DTR property map)

Grand Lake Skate Race

A beautiful spot for a race course full of twisting and rolling terrain. A 3k course for juniors, and a 7.5k course with multiple laps for the 15k & 30 race. Come join the fun.

Snow Mountain Stampede

The annual Snow Mountain Stampede is part of the Grand County Nordic Race Series, held at Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center, with a long and short course option. Two Days, Two Races. March 11th is the Freestyle Race (12.5K, 25K, 50K) and March 12th is the Classic Race (12.5K, 25K, 50K). 25K Tours for those who don’t wish to have a timed race, and would like to ski 25K. FREE 3K Kids Fun Race for kids 15 and under on Saturday & Sunday at 10:30am. Online registration prices go up at midnight on Thursday and closes at 6pm, Friday, March 10. THERE IS NO DAY OF REGISTRATION

Saturday start times: 50K Skate: 9:00am, 25K Skate: 9:10am, 12.5K Skate 9:20am, 3k 10:30am, Kids Fun Race 10:30am

Sunday start times: 50K Classic: 9:00 am, 25K Classic: 9:10 am, 12.5K Classic 9:20am, 3k 10:30am, Kids Fun Race 10:30am

Bib pick-up times: Friday March 10th from 4-6 pm & Saturday March 11th and Sunday March 12th from 7-8:30 am in the upstairs of the Nordic Center.

This year the post-race BBQ is back! Each race registration will include a ticket for the BBQ lunch. Additional tickets will be available for purchase.

Awards: 1-3 Overall in each event. 1st in each age group class. Age groups are as follows:

Junior 12 and under
Junior 13-15
Junior 16-18
19-29
30-39
40-49
50-69
70+

If you place in an event overall you will not qualify for an age group award. Overall awards will be held at Snow Mountain Ranch at 1:30. Age-Group awards can be picked up at SMR Nordic Center from 2-5PM.

** You may sign up through the end of series. However the series price will not be prorated if entered after events have occurred.
** Events that a registrant does not participate will result in a 0 point value being recorded.
