After some very long work days from Colorado Biathlon Club’s volunteers, the progress on the biathlon’s range upgrades are significant! The range can now reopen on a limited basis. The range will remain an active construction site for several more weeks, but lanes 1-4 are available for use. A few important notes to keep in mind when accessing the range:

  • Because the existing shed is currently being used for material storage, you will not be able to access the carpets. Please, plan on bringing a blanket or other mat to put down on top of the stall mats already in place since they get quite hot in the sun. Please, DO NOT attempt to access the carpets!
  • Please, do not disturb any of the materials that are currently being stored anywhere in the range area.
  • If the range is crowded, work with other biathletes to share lanes. Do not attempt to move materials to access additional lanes other than lanes 1-4.
  • Remember to sign in and out when using the range.

A few more closures later this summer are anticipated to allow the completion of the remaining work. These dates will be announced as soon and as far in advance as possible, but there may be a few short-notice closures. Please, bear with the Colorado Biathlon Club as their volunteers work to get all the improvements in for the winter season.

At the moment the range is partly closed, the build might be inconvenient in some ways, and potentially people will have a different perspective or idea on how or when these upgrades should have been done. Please, be respectful and mindful of the hard work and exhausting hours that the Colorado Biathlon Club and the volunteers have put in to make this project possible for all of us to enjoy! There is certainly more work to follow but the results will be well worth the wait.

All materials worth over $25,000, the majority of them will be donated, were delivered in 5 trucks which took a whole day just to short and breakdown all the materials. Two days were spent digging and pouring cement followed by three very high heat work days. The sheds have been well-designed and overbuilt to withstand the elements for decades to come. All sheds will be durable, strong, and insulated!

Big thanks to all the volunteers who took the initiative and put in tremendous sweat equity in this massive project to improve the Biathlon range! Some special thanks to Drew and Brent that while working their day jobs, living life, and having families they have spent hundreds of hours just in the planning of this upgrade for the range which started in earnest before the Biathlon season ended. Recent months have been filled with weekly and daily calls to make sure it all came together.
