The USBA has a new set of requirements for “safety certification” which all Biathlon competitors need to fulfill at some point in 2025. In the near term, Colorado Biathlon Club (CBC) will prioritize completing this action for anyone planning to attend a USBA event this spring. If you’re planning to attend the Masters Nationals event in Wisconsin February 14-16 (https://www.skireg.com/ancbiathlon-festival) or Nationals in Bozeman March 27-29 (https://www.crosscutmt.org/us-biathlon-nationals-2025), and you have *not* already taken the online USBA course and fulfilled the practical assessment requirement, please reach out to Julia at [email protected] so you can schedule a time to meet for the practical portion of the requirement before you travel to the races.
Even if you’re *not* planning to attend a national event this spring, please take the online course as a refresher, and CBC will send out an update once they figure out how to staff the remaining practical assessment sessions. Instructions for accessing the USBA course, as well as other information about their safety certification process, are at: https://www.coloradobiathlon.org/safety/#usba NOTE: The “Center” is not the same login you use for your USBA membership; it is a different system.
The USBA requirements are necessary, but not sufficient, for .22 use on our SMR range as far as CBC is (currently) concerned. CBC’s safety certification clinics cover much more than the very minimal USBA rifle safety review, because safety at their events — and training at the range — depends on everyone understanding race formats, range etiquette, etc. If you don’t remember a detail or are confused by anything happening on the range, don’t try to fake it, ask the question!
