Winter Park Resort Comp Center Nordic Program
The Winter Park Competition Center offers Nordic ski programs, ranging from Intro/Ski for Fun, to Nordic Development and Competition, to Competitive Racing, Full-time Academy program and Summer Training.
Their Intro to Nordic program is perfect for children eager to learn the fundamentals of Nordic skiing in a fun and engaging environment. Designed to teach introductory cross-country skiing skills, this program uses games and short-distance skiing to make learning enjoyable. They’ll focus on classic skiing techniques during the initial sessions and introduce skate skiing as balance and agility improve. Our aim is to help young athletes develop proper technique while having a great time outdoors. This program is ideal for kids who want to embrace the joy of Nordic skiing while enjoying the great outdoors.
Their next level, Development Team, is a Learn to Ski program based on FUNdamentals, teaching introductory cross country skiing skills and games while immersed in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Their goal is to help athletes develop the proper technique at a young age.
Their Competitive Development Team guides participants into the Learn-to-Train stage of cross country skiing. At this level, the coaches help athletes develop an understanding of basic rules, tactics, strategies, and refinement of sport-specific skills.
Their Nordic Competitive Race Team is designed for athletes in the Winter Park area or on the Front Range, who are interested in getting better at cross country skiing, having fun, and attending Nordic events and races. This is a Train-to-Compete program based on fun, teamwork, and competition. Athletes will continue to focus on fundamentals and will be introduced to athletic training plans, goal setting, and regional competition.
The WPCC year-round, Full-time Academy program is designed for middle school, high school, and post-graduate athletes dedicated to developing their Nordic skiing skills to their highest potential within a supportive team environment. The team will train regularly from October to April. During the summer months, athletes will have the opportunity to attend numerous on and off-snow camps and have access to dryland training.
