Aspen trees are starting to change colors, after-work bike rides are ending in the dark, and A-Basin advertised its first dusting of snow! Winter is almost here!

Almost…

Before you scrape the storage wax off your skis and dig out your Windstopper® underwear, there is time for one more summer biathlon up at Snow Mountain Ranch! Join us for mountain bike and trail running biathlons on Sunday, September 29th to reintroduce your shooting to red-zone heart rates!

The running event has 5K and 10K options, while the bike event offers 5K, 10K, and 15K distances. All races, regardless of the distance, will include four bouts of shooting in standard prone-prone-standing-standing order. Most of the race courses will use the same laps that we know and love/hate from the winter events. Races will be run in such a way as to allow you to race in both a running and mountain biking event if you want to maximize the day.

USBA membership is required for all racers. If you do not have an annual membership from the winter biathlon season, we recommend purchasing a 1-day membership; USBA’s membership year ends on October 31st, regardless of when you purchase your membership.

If you do not have your Red Book (if you’re asking what that is, you don’t have one) you will need to take part in our event-specific, mini-USBA safety certification in order to shoot a .22 rifle in the race. Participants will need to complete an online course ahead of time and then take a short practical the morning of the race. Again, this is required to participate with a .22 rifle. Please note, the safety certification for this event is not a substitute for the full CBC safety clinic/Red Book! You will need to complete a CBC safety clinic prior to being able to shoot a .22 rifle at any of the winter races. Details on the safety certification requirements for the summer race can be found at https://www.coloradobiathlon.org/safety/

Club .22 rifles and pellet rifles will be available for use at these events. Please, be sure to sign up for them during registration if you do not have your own rifle.

As with all biathlon events, we need volunteers to help as range officials. Please, reach out to [email protected] if you are able to help us out on race day.

Registration for the trail running and mountain bike biathlons on September 29th  is live now! Registration details can be found at: https://coloradobiathlon.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=4002&club_id=465342&item_id=2319921&eml=1&actr=3
