Hello Colorado Biathlon Club biathletes and supporters!
While you are undoubtedly eagerly awaiting the upcoming 26/27 season and its associated snowfall, we hope that this provides you with enough excitement to tide you over until winter formally arrives.
September 26th will be an opportunity for you to shake off the cobwebs, (re)start your training regimes, and get a jumpstart on your goals for the upcoming season. We will be running two summertime biathlon races on Saturday Sept. 26th:
- A 5k for runners
- A 5k or 10k for cyclists
While you can sign up for both the running and a cycling race, you are limited in choosing either the 5k or 10k cycling length.
We chose to emphasize shooting in these races. The running race will be conducted as a mass start and penalties will be run off in the normal penalty loop that we use during the winter. As in all mass start races, there will be four shooting bouts (prone, prone, stand, stand). The cycling races will be conducted as Individual format. There will be four shooting bouts in each of these (prone, stand, prone, stand). The penalties for the cycling Individual format races will be a 30 second time penalty for each miss in the 5K, and a 60 second penalty for each miss in the 10K. The name of the game for these races is… SHOOT WELL!
Registration for both races will open at 5PM on September 5th but please note that registration will close at 5PM on September 18th (one day earlier than usual). Here is the link to register!
- For adults the registration fee for a single race is $25, while registering for both is $40
- For athletes under 18, a single registration is $15 and for both it’s $25
- Club rifle fee is $15 per race
Due to changing and increased safety and insurance requirements, beginner racers who have not already passed both the USBA and Colorado Biathlon Club rifle safety clinics will not be allowed to use Club rifles or live ammunition. We will not offer a race day safety clinic to allow beginners to shoot live ammo. However, Colorado Biathlon Club has made recent investments in very high-quality laser, rifles and targets. Those will be available for beginner racers to use.
As always we are in need of volunteers! As of right now, we don’t have timers for any of the races. If we don’t get volunteers for those roles, we will likely ask competitors to time themselves.
Please reach out to either Eric Bergman (eric.bergman@ymail.com) or Patrick Cooney (patcooney86@gmail.com) if you are interested/willing in helping our races go smoothly!
If you have general or specific questions, please reach out to Eric/Pat and do NOT hit reply all to this email!
Your friendly neighborhood comp chiefs,
Eric & Pat
