Hello from Grand County,
We’ve been having the challenge of a winter with very low snow and warm temperatures. Nonetheless the groomers and mother nature have given Snow Mountain Ranch enough usable snow for us to go ahead and hold our events this coming weekend of January 10th and January 11th.
We will hold the Grand Nordic Skate Race January 10th as a mass start event on a course modified due to our low snow situation. The long course (15km) will start at 11am, short course (7.5km) will start at 11:15 and the 3km junior race will start at 11:20.
The long course will be two 7.5km laps. I’ll get a map out by Wednesday that will show the courses. Registration/bib pickup will start at 8am at the camper’s hub, food and podium ceremony in the camper’s hub following the event.
The Snow Mountain Classic race will be held on January 11th. Again, this will be a modified course and a modified format due to the challenge of setting good tracks with such low snow. The distances will remain the same, long course will be 15km, short course 7.5km and 3km junior course. We will be starting folks in groups of five skiers at a time in an effort to spread everyone out over our limited course. The long course starts will begin at 11:00am. Once all the long course skiers are out on track we’ll start the short course skiers, and then the 3 km racers. Registration/bib pickup will start at 8am at the camper’s hub, food and podium ceremony in the camper’s hub after the event.
